IPT 15-01 Junior-Journeyman Software Engineer - Patuxent River, MD
Function:
IPT Corp seeks a junior to journeyman-level software engineer with 2-5 years of experience to join the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) Software Sustainment Activity (SSA) team and support the software development and deployment of a next-generation landing system. Take an ownership role in the development of the Ship Processor (SP) embedded system and gain hands-on experience with JPALS software, systems, and be able to make your mark on a critical part of future naval carrier aviation. Will be responsible for the coordination with other development groups, auto-coding their Simulink algorithms, integrating that in the SP system, and supporting the system through testing and deployment.
A strong background in an object-oriented language, especially Java, is required as well as familiarity with C/C++. No specific embedded systems or Simulink experience is required, as the team will provide support and mentoring for specific knowledge. Experience with standard development tools and concepts is desired which includes issue trackers, continuous integration, peer reviews, and software testing.

Requirements/Responsibilities:
- 2-5 years of experience
- Responsible for software design, implementation, and integration of software updates and enhancements to the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) Ship Processor
- Responsible for Simulink auto-code generation and integration with hand-code
- Responsible for participating in Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives (story point assessment, etc.), updating trouble reports in Atlassian Jira, writing test scripts, peer review of code, and generally participating in the software development process
Education: BS or BA Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Information Systems
Minimum Experience:
- 2+ years of experience developing Java applications
- Experience with and strong understanding of C/C++
- Ability to learn new programming languages, frameworks, and tools
- Ability to work collaboratively in dynamic groups of various sizes
Desired Experience:
- 2+ years of experience developing Python scripts
- Experience working in an Agile software development
- Experience with software architecture and design
- Experience with developing technical documentation
- Experience with articulating technical advice to leadership
- Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite and Git
- CompTia Security+ CE certification or equivalent
